How did you start playing soccer?
I was about 8 years old when I started to play for my school just for fun as a striker. It did not last long though, it took about two games for the coach to put me in goal because I was the tallest kid on the team. Since then, I fell in love with the position and never wanted to play any other position.
How would you define yourself as a goalkeeper?
I try to be as consistent as I can. I understood throughout the years that if I play simple and do the basics during a game, I will be successful. Working hard everyday is definitely something that I try to keep in order to always feel comfortable during games. Lastly, I would say that I try to be a leader whichever team I play for.
How would you define North Carolina FC inside?
North Carolina is one of those clubs that not only take care of the “player”, they are always making sure that the human off the field is being taken care of as well. Providing an amazing infrastructure, it turns out easier to develop as much as we can.
What model of gloves do you use? And why?
I do love negative cuts, just because it fits better on my hands. The Guerrero Collection is my chosen glove for the 2020 season.
What advice would you give those who were starting to play soccer?
There will be many obstacles in front of you, people who are going to look at you and say that you will not make it. My biggest advice is that no matter what you go through, trust the process, get away from those who do not believe in yourself and take the opportunities when it comes.
What qualities do you think are the most important for a goalkeeper?
Personality and leadership
What has been the most important moment in your sports career?
Being drafted first round from LAFC
How do you overcome a serious mistake during a match?
The same way when I make a big save, I turn the page and move on.
Any rituals before or during games?
Not really, I usually watch the highlights from a few players of the other team to figure out their tendencies.
